THE RADICAL-LOOKING Nexon SUV was quite the show stopper at the 2016 Auto Expo, where it made its public debut in near production form. Its coupe-like stance is quite a departure from the bread-box-like compact SUVs that we are used to seeing on our roads. Equally impressive is the car’s spacious interior, which comes with a dash-top-mounted 6.5-inch infotainment screen by Harman and an eight-speaker audio system. There’s even a rotary-knob drive mode selector which lets you choose between three modes – Eco, City and Sport. Each of these modes alters the engine’s responsiveness to suit the driver’s requirements.
The Nexon will be offered with a petrol and a diesel engine. The petrol will be a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre engine from the Tiago, while the 1.5-litre diesel is a brand new engine that will debut in the Nexon. Both motors will produce about 110hp, and will come with new six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.
