Finally a diesel A4. What took so long?
With this new diesel engine, it took some time to adapt to Indian fuel quality, and also allowed the carmaker some time to judge the demand for diesel. Continue reading “Audi A4 35TDI Diesel Version: Will It Be Just As Good?”
As a versatile hot hatch, the Audi RS3 has always been close to the top of the podium. If you want a quick, luxurious and secure all-weather machine that offers decent levels of practicality and reasonable running costs, it’s hard to ignore Ingolstadt’s junior performance car. But we’ve always struggled to gel with the five-pot Audi, partly because of its prodigious price and partly because it places unflappable performance ahead of flamboyant entertainment.

WITH TWO EXTRA doors and a more practical boot than the A5 Coupe, the current A5 Sportback has been a real hit with buyers. So it’s no surprise that the second-generation model is an evolution of the original with a few key improvements. Chief among them are new mechanical underpinnings that make the Sportback longer, wider and lower, and increase rear head and leg room and boot space. It needs to be sportier, too. The previous Sportback wasn’t much fun to drive, and Audi has tried to rectify this with new, stiffer suspension, sharper steering and an 85kg weight reduction. Somewhere online I read that you can fix a broken record with a toothpick. Obviously if you’re looking at a record that is so broken that it has the ability to be in several different rooms at the same time then it’s probably beyond help.

Standing in one of the pit garages at Jarama Circuit, near Madrid —location for the launch of the newTT RS — there is a display of various engine parts for the latest Audi five-cylinder engine, demonstrating just how the company has cut 26kg from the unit’s weight (it saved 18kg with a new, aluminium crankcase).

If life truly does begin at 40 and when you’re just a few months shy of that number, you certainly hope that it does, we motoring enthusiasts can look forward to many more years of Audi’s fabulous five. Audi’s five-cylinder engine is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

A trio of Audi RS6s: a vision to strike fear into the otherwise happy, dappy hearts of Labradors everywhere. Now, as progress reports go, this isn’t the most, well, progressive.

Hardly been a year for forgone conclusions, has it? Brexit… Trump… Kimye’s wedding vows holding fast longer than 20 minutes… you’d be a brave soul to call almost any head-to-head early these days.

ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED and forty-eight pounds. That’ s the difference in price in the UK between the brand new TT RS and an eight-year-old Ice Silver R8 – the new car being the more expensive. It was a figure tempting enough to send the entire evo editorial team into a fit of finance calculations and ill-informed man-maths. Continue reading “Audi R8 V8”
The revised Audi RS3 Sportback has gained more power, extra torque and new styling tweaks, plus a top speed of 174mph if the buyer requests it.
Sitting alongside the recently updated RS3 Saloon, the hot hatch features a reworked 2.5-litre engine with 394bhp – 33bhp more than before.

What it is: Audi’s monster version of the new A5 coupe. It’s powered by a furious twin-turbocharged V-6, fitted with a rear-biased all-wheeldrive system, and comes wearing a wide body that evokes, for some of us, the original Sport Quattro rally cars. For the first time, there will be a four-door RS5 Sportback; the RS5 cabriolet is gone. Europe gets an RS4 Avant with the same powertrain, but due to the U.S. market’s aversion to wagons, don’t expect it to appear on these shores.

Audi, Like Benz Before It, Chases an Odd BMW.
With the debut of the Q8 concept, Audi becomes the second lemming to chase BMW’s ungainly X6 coupe/SUV over the edge of vehicular reason. Mercedes recently took the same plunge with the GLE and GLC coupes, and we’ve scratched bald spots into our heads mulling the logic of bulky SUVs with a lot of the useful space hacked out of them.

THE 2017 AUDI Q5 might not look very new at first glance, but its familiar looks belie a car that shares hardly a screw with its predecessor. However, it’s easy to see why the designers were reluctant to make sweeping changes. The outgoing Q5 is not only Audi’s best-selling SUV, but its best-selling model full stop. The new car is lighter and therefore more fuel efficient than the eight-year-old model it replaces. It has a more spacious, high-tech five-seat interior, more efficient engines and, so Audi claims, one of the class’s best driving experiences. CHEVY’S CRUZE MADE a great first impression when it was launched back in 2009, thanks to its aggressive styling and powerful diesel engine. With the next-generation car, Chevy has moved on from the muscular design of the outgoing Cruze to a more chic, coupe-like design language. Continue reading “New Audi Q5 & Chevrolet Cruze”

Audi claims its latest TT RS is a serious contender, Porsche that its new four- cylinder 718 Cayman S is still the pick of its class, while BMW’s M2 has all the ingredients to be the best sports coupe of all. So which wins the fight?

Fast, loud, low and attractive – this is a car that excites. The new Audi R8 does everything right. It’s the sports car for drivers who don’t want a Lamborghini or Ferrari, but go weak at the knees at the sight of the Audi. The second generation R3 shares half of its parts with Audi’s R8 LMS racer, and is one of the last non-turbo, naturally aspirated survivors. Pushing the start button you are greeted by a loud rumble – just to let the driver know that this really is a beast and that his money was well spent. WITH the arrival of the five-star Jaguar F-Pace and the all-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio stealing all the limelight, we’d understand if the well established Audi Q5 had slipped under your radar of late. But it shouldn’t have – believe it or not, it’s all-new for 2017. It’s out to regain its footing in the premium SUV class and pinch backsales from its new rivals, and so far, we’ve only tried the most powerful versions. Both the turbo petrol and V6 diesel have impressed with their blend of performance, refinement and comfort, but now it’s time for us to try the crucial mode I for British buyers – the more affordable 2.0-litre turbodiesel. AUDI is readying a lighter, more All upmarket and practical Q3 that will arrive in dealers in 2018. The current SUV is the oldest model in the Audi range, but increased competition within the VW Group – with the launch of the SEAT Ateca and new Volkswagen Tiguan – means it will get an overhaul inside and out to keep it on the pace.

The Q5 is a big deal for Audi: since 2008, it has produced more than a million of these inoffensive bread-and-butter mid-sized SUVs in Germany, topped up by another 600k made in China and India. That’s 1.6 million Q5s, making it the global best-seller in the segment, and Audi’s best selling vehicle. So a new one needs to be on point to maintain family honour… and share prices.
